Discussion:
Blocked by concurrent calls

I've got three modems, all of which are available for calling out. To make
sure everything was working, I sent three separate faxes to an outside fax
machine, like so:

sendfax -d330675xxxx filename

As the first one started out, I sent the second one; as it started, I sent
the third one.

The first fax went out just fine. The next two just sat in the queue with a
message 'Blocked by concurrent call'.

I _thought_ that HylaFAX would modems added by faxaddmodem, and use them as
necessary. Apparently, I'm wrong. What do I need to do to use more than
one fax?

Thanks,

If you send N faxes to the same destination, Hylafax will send
sequentially, no matter how many modems you have.

Another call to the same number is "Blocked by concurrent call" because
Hylafax knows what it is doing; specifically it's calling that number
right now, so how could the remote machine answer another call?

Modems 2 and 3 are quite free to call any number except the one being
dialed by modem 1.

Hah! So you're saying HylaFAX is smarter than I am, then. :)

Makes sense - I'll try sending on different phone numbers.

(Jean-Pierre Radley? I assume this is the CompuServe JPR? 20 years later, and
I'm _still_ asking you for help?)

OTOH, some other folks pointed to you to MaxConcurrentJobs. It is useful
to set this to a number higher than 1 only if your destination has a
pool of modems which will answer the same telephone number.

It isn't globally useful, since 97.42% of the fax numbers in the world
surely do NOT stand for a pool of modems. -:) But if you know one of
your destinations is such a pool, than read the man page for destctrls.

...your humble servant. :-)

N.B. I've been hanging out in this newsgroup since before I ever dialed
up CompuServe.
