Hi,
I am using Debian 7.4.0 and Hylafax 6.0.6.
I followed some tutorials from the internet to setup my fax server and now
it gives me the error message:

Can not reach service hylafax at host "localhost".

I read all the related forum posts about this error.

I added 127.0.0.1 and localhost to the top of
/var/spool/hylafax/etc/hosts.hfaxd
and
I added hylafax 4559/tcp nano
/etc/services

nothing worked for me so far. Please advise. I tried everything I could
find, maybe I should start all over again with a fresh installation but can
you suggest me debian version and hylafax version which might work well
together.

Thanks in advance.
A J Stiles

and Hylafax 6.0.6.
Did you install this from Source Code, or from a Debian package? Hylafax
6.0.6 is already in Debian Wheezy, and it doesn't appear as though anything
has had to be removed to make it meet DFSG; so, besides the experience of
learning to build complex packages from Source Code, there is little to be
gained from rolling your own in this case.

Firstly, are you sure Hylafax is actually running on your box? It's quite
possible that it might be refusing to start up due to some misconfiguration, or
an uinsatisfied *runtime* dependency (which might not have been detected
during the build process). What do you get if you run the following command?

# ps aux |grep hfaxd

I suggest you stick with Wheezy, but use the Debian packages of Hylafax;

# apt-get install hylafax-server hylafax-client

(Actually, as a general rule when you're running Debian, if you know you are
going to need to build something yourself in order to fix a Debian deficiency,
it's always best to install and remove the Debian package first, just so you
get the runtime dependencies brought in.)
