No carrier detected

I am brand new to hylafax and have just managed to install it. All looks
alright but when I try to send a fax, I get this error 'No carrier
detected'. What could be the problem? See below.

Hi Lee,

sorry, but this is not completely correct.

There can be a lot of possibilities.
If this is a phone-line, you will not get this message.

You get it only if
- this number is not in use or incorrect
- your provider cannot connect you to this number at this time
(this is also possible on a bad line with international calls)
- the number is disturbed

So it is a good idea to redial.

Hi Lee,
sorry, but this is not completely correct.

Not that I particularly want to continue a debate on the meaning of "no
carrier", but I was not wanting to confuse Mr. Olwero, so I gave him
the easy answer. I could have gone on through the full list of
possibilities: no answer, wrong number, disconnected number, voice
number, long voice-message before fax detection, broken modem, etc.
But I wanted to keep things easy.

Voice line, you mean? Not that I want to debate it further, but on
analog systems yes, you will get "no carrier". The "no carrier"
message is broad and simply put means that no fax carrier was found on
the other end. A voice line does not produce a fax carrier.

send faxes.
I had change to blank this fields in the config file: (config.ttyS0)
CountryCode:
AreaCode:
LongDistancePrefix:
InternationalPrefix:
And now I can send fax without errors.

Or, might it more or less be that the fax didn't pick up? For instance,
you'd get a no carrier attempting to dial my fax if I do not manually pick
it up, hit Receive Fax, and hang it back up.
